Travis Air Force Base shower donations needed!

Travis AFB, CA – Operation Showers of Appreciation along with Balfour Beatty Community, have joined forces to provide a military baby shower for expecting spouses at Travis Air Force Base.  The shower will be held on Saturday January 14th, 2012 at the Community Center at Travis Air Force Base for approximately 20 new and expecting mothers who have active duty partners or are active-duty servicewomen.  All military branches of services are invited to participate. The event will include food and gifts from the local community.

Operation Showers of Appreciation is excited to be partnering with Balfour Beatty Community.  This shower will help military expecting mothers and their families receive the items needed when caring for their newborns.

“This shower is a new endeavor for our organization here at Travis Air Force Base,” said Kimberly Felshaw, President of Operation Showers of Appreciation.  "New motherhood is challenging enough under ideal circumstances, so being able to support and lift up these mothers while their partners are deployed is just fantastic. It helps ensure moms have what they need, and reassures deployed dads that their loved ones are cared for so that they can focus on their mission."

Members of the community are encouraged to drop off their new unwrapped baby items to 695 Valley View Way, Travis AFB, CA 94535 or to contact Michsella Ory, Operation Showers of Appreciation Travis AFB Shower Coordinator for pick up.

Any military expecting mothers who are active duty service women, spouses of active duty, Reserve or National Guard who are expecting between September 1st and March 1st, 2012 can register now for the January 14th, 2012 shower at www.osoamil.org.

Individuals or companies wishing to donate items or volunteer please contact Michsella Ory, Operation Showers of Appreciation Travis AFB Shower Coordinator at 707-430-2520 or via e-mail at Mamacub150@yahoo.com.

Operation Showers of Appreciation – Puts together special gift basket from the community for the First Baby born at Mike O’Callaghan Federal Hospital at Nellis AFB

Las Vegas, NV – Operation Showers of Appreciation is excited to support and celebrate the birth of 2012’s first military baby born in Southern Nevada.  Each year the badge of honor is given to the first baby born.  To help celebrate this special birth, we are asking for the communities assistance in putting a special gift basket toget for the First Baby born at Mike O’Callaghan Federal Hospital at Nellis AFB.  With your help, we can truly make this a special day for the family.  We are accept gift certificates, restaurant gift certificates, purchased and handmade baby items as well as useful items like a stroller, car seat, diapers etc.

The majority of the women are first-time moms or expecting multiples.  Due to constant deployments many of these expecting mothers will be giving birth while their husbands are deployed in combat areas such as Afghanistan.  In addition to an afternoon of food and games the most important opportunity for many of these new moms is to be surrounded by other women in the exact same situation as they celebrate the births of their new babies.

“This will be the first time we will be assisting to put together a New Year’s Baby basket in the Las Vegas valley,” said Kimberly Felshaw, President of Operation Showers of Appreciation.  "We look forward to supporting these New families in 2012 and are honored in collecting and providing needed baby items for our military families."

Individuals or companies wishing to donate items please contact Jody Shervanick, PR and Las Vegas baby shower coordinator at 702.862.6064 or email pr@osoamil.org.  Donations of baby items can be handmade or purchased.  There is a need for diapers, bath essentials, bath tubs, bottles, teethers, bedding, socks, shoes and toys.

Thanksgiving

At this time of year, we have so much to be thankful for! At OSOA we are thankful for you, our friends, our volunteers, our donors and our supporters who are helping us shower expecting military families in our communities. We remember those who are not with their loved ones this holiday and hope they are safe and will come home soon to their families and friends. We thank and honor those who serve and care for others less fortunate, especially during these difficult times and pray for their strength and guidance as we all hope and pray that better days lie ahead. We are grateful for the opportunity to spend time in the company of heroic families. We wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Halo donates 150 sleep sacks for expecting military families!

Operation Showers of Appreciation wants to thank our friends at Halo for donating 150 sleep sacks for our expecting military families!  HALO's mission is simple: To make sure that every baby sleeps safely.

Halo’s founder Bill Schmid and his wife lost their firstborn to SIDS. From this tragedy, HALO and its mission were born. For over 15 years they've been educating parents about safe sleep practices and supporting non-profit organizations like First Candle/SIDS Alliance and The Canadian Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths. Since 2005, the American Academy of Pediatrics has suggested the use of wearable blankets. Today, HALO SleepSack wearable blankets are the #1 trusted choice of hospitals, and are used nationwide to help babies sleep safely from the start.

HALO is also working with hundreds of hospitals nationwide via their Safer Way to Sleep® Initiative to educate parents on safe sleep practices and provide HALO SleepSack wearable blankets to NICU and hospital nurseries to model safe sleep practices.

Check out their great products: HALO® SleepSack® Wearable Blanket; HALO® SleepSack® Swaddle; HALO® Cotton Layette; HALO® ComfortLuxe™ Sleepwear

The definition of Labor Day: Labor Day is a day set aside by the government to honor workers of all types. It is observed on the first Monday in September. Remember those that LABOR for all of us, who don't get to celebrate this, or other holidays, who work endlessly, sometimes all night long, who don't get the comforts of home and their own bed and their families arms around them whenever they'd like. Remember those in uniform, who make it all possible to enjoy our freedoms.

How to register for an Operation Showers of Appreciation Baby Shower

Operation Showers of Appreciation currently hosts baby showers in California, Arizona and Nevada.  We hope to host baby showers in other military communities/states soon. If you are interested in hosting a shower please e-mail us at info@OSOAmil.org

If you are aware of an Operation Showers of Appreciation military baby shower that will be held in your area and you would like to register please see below:

Each new or expecting mom who wishes to attend one of our baby showers is asked to provide 5 pieces of information in order to confirm eligibility for the shower. Some links might not work on governmental computers so please e-mail us at info@OSOAmil.org and request PDF's of the forms if you are unable to access the links.

1. Baby Shower Registration Form: http://osoamil.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/OSOA-Assistance-Form.pdf

2. Copy of your Most Current Les (National Guard/Reserve families who are not activated won’t have this document and that’s okay).

3. Copy of Expecting Moms Military ID

4. Proof of Pregnancy (Doctors note from hospital/pregnancy profile-we do not accept ultrasound photos)

5. Military Service Member Verification Form http://osoamil.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Verification-Statement3.pdf When it says command to be signed off  this means the active duty service woman’s supervisor, spouses’ supervisor or an FRG contact as we know many of our dads are deployed at this time and his supervisor would not be able to sign off on the verification form. In short we need a third party to confirm your eligibility.

These 5 documents can be faxed or sent via email to us at:
Operation Showers of Appreciation;
Attn: Baby Shower Registration
Fax: (760) 859-3331

E-Mail: registration@OSOAmil.org.

All moms will be contacted via evite and confirmed for the upcoming baby shower in their area (30 days prior to the shower date!)!

Cannery Resort Group is collecting OSOA Las Vegas donations from now up until July 23rd.

Operation Showers of Appreciation – Throws A Huge Military Baby Shower
For Expecting Servicewomen and Spouses in Nevada

Las Vegas, NV – Operation Showers of Appreciation along with Fox 5 and Cannery Casino Resorts, have joined forces to provide the largest military baby shower in Nevada.  The shower will be held on Saturday July 30, 2011 at the Eastside Cannery Casino Hotel at 1pm in the spectalular One Six Sky Lounge, that features panoramic views of the entire valley in Las Vegas for approximately 100 new and expecting mothers who have deployed partners or are active-duty servicewomen.  All military branches of services will be invited (Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines) to participate.  The event will include gifts from the local community and flowers from expectant fathers.

FOX5 and Cannery Casino Resorts are excited to be partnering with Operation Showers of Appreciation.  This shower will help military expecting mothers and their families receive the items needed when caring for their newborns.

“This giant baby shower is a new endeavor for our organization here in the Las Vegas valley,” said Kimberly Felshaw, President of Operation Showers of Appreciation.  "New motherhood is challenging enough under ideal circumstances, so being able to support and lift up these mothers while their partners are deployed is just fantastic. It helps ensure moms have what they need, and reassures deployed dads that their loved ones are cared for so that they can focus on their mission."

Members of the community are encouraged to drop off their new unwrapped baby items to the valets of the Cannery Casino & Hotel in North Las Vegas, Eastside Cannery Casino & Hotel on Boulder Highway or Rampart Casino in Summerlin from June 23-July 23.

“This is a wonderful event and our entire organization is excited for the chance to get involved and help,” said Marty Gross, Vice President and General Manager of Eastsdie Cannery.  “Since our properties are located throughout the Las Vegas Valley we offer convenient drop off points for donations and we hope that everyone gets involved so that these families who are sacrificing for us get everything they need.”

Any military expecting mothers who are active duty service women, spouses of active duty, Reserve or National Guard who are expecting between May 1st and December 31, 2011 can register now for the July 30, 2011 shower at www.osoamil.org.

OSOA Founder Kimberly Felshaw nominated for Stay Classy Award.

Kim is the founder of Operation Showers of Appreciation, and works hard everyday while being a stay at home mom of her 2 children. She supports military families who are expecting new babies by hosting baby showers for up to 100 moms. Since 2006, they have assisted more than 3500 families and have become friends with several of the families they assisted over the years.

OSOA was established in 2006 by Kimberly Felshaw after being assisted by a local church in 2005. In January of 2005, the Felshaw’s were invited to attend a baby shower held by the South Shores Church located in Monarch Beach California, while her spouse served on active duty with the United States Marines. At this shower, they were assisted with everything they would need for the arrival and care for their first child, Allysa. Shortly after the shower, their daughter Allysa arrived. She was six weeks early and diagnosed with a terminal disease called Trisomy 13 and lived for three short weeks. Members of the South Shores Church assisted the Felshaw’s by opening their hearts and hands to them in their time of need.
Their kindness and generosity inspired Kimberly to begin Operation Showers of Appreciation. OSOA assisted their 100th family in July 2008 and have surpassed 3000 families in 2011. OSOA has goals of expanding their services to families located across the United States and hopes of reaching families stationed overseas. The largest obstacle has been receiving enough donations to cover all the families requesting assistance. On many occasions if there was not enough funding, Kimberly would pay for items out her own pocket so that another family didn’t go without the items they needed.

“There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than 10,000 tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love.” said Washington Irving and Kimberly reiterated this quote Kimberly while discussing why she assists military families.

Fox 5 Las Vegas fan favorite Monica Jackson will emcee the July 30th Las Vegas Operation Showers of Appreciation Baby Shower!

Operation Showers of Appreciation is so excited to have fan favorite Monica Jackson emcee our Las Vegas baby shower on Saturday July 30th at the Eastside Cannery Hotel & Casino.  Monica comes from a military background which just makes this announcement icing on the cake!

Monica Jackson co-anchors FOX5 News Live in Las Vegas from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. weekday mornings. She's also one of the co-hosts of MORE. Monica comes to FOX5 after a stint as morning traffic anchor for WFMY News 2 in Greensboro, N.C.

Before Greensboro, Monica worked for four years -- 1998-2002 -- as the morning traffic anchor/feature reporter for WXYZ TV Channel 7 in Detroit.

Monica's career has been very unique because she started out in her hometown of Detroit, Mich., which is also a top-10 market. In 1995, her love and dedication to the business opened the door to the opportunity to work for one of the top radio stations in the city -- WCHB.

The company originally hired Monica as the afternoon news anchor for the John Arnold News/Talk Show on the AM side of the station. However, after only two-days on the air, management invited Monica to join the Morning Show on the FM side of the station.

There, she worked as the morning news anchor, as well as a morning show personality. The show was an immediate success and the team known as "The Breakfast Jam" made it to the No. 2 spot in the ratings in less than a year. In spite of her rigorous split shift, Monica enjoyed every minute of it.

Her enjoyment and success was soon recognized by a local television station, Fox 2 News in Detroit, where she was invited to join the morning team as the in-studio traffic anchor from 1996 to 1998. Monica accepted the offer, but after about six months on the air, she was pirated away from Fox by WXYZ. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Monica was born and raised in the city of Detroit, but as a result of her husband's Air Force career, she graduated from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.

Monica loves spending time with her husband, Delano, who also happens to be her high school sweetheart. She still gets butterflies when she talks about him. And, in April 2006, she and Delano became the proud parents of their son, D'Artagnan Mancel Jackson. He is the love of their lives.
